As the Director of Marketing and Communications in Duke University’s Office of University Development, I work with university leadership to articulate compelling gift opportunities, direct the editorial and messaging strategy for all development communications, oversee the creation and execution of annual marketing plans, conduct audience and brand research, and direct media relations and social media activity.
Prior to Duke I uncovered the audience insights that shape digital programs and developed the strategic plans to meet their goals as Strategy Director at Blue State Digital in Washington, DC. During my tenure at Blue State Digital, I worked with a variety of clients including World Wildlife Fund, Booz Allen Hamilton, the Smithsonian, and The Ohio State University. Prior to Blue State Digital, I was an Integrated Producer for McCann Erickson, creating award-winning campaigns for heavy-hitting brands including Verizon Wireless, Nikon, General Mills, and MasterCard.
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts in Film & Television Production and Psychology and an MBA from The Pennsylvania State University’s Smeal College of Business. While completing my MBA, my wife and I founded and led a social outreach campaign, Blue Out Penn State, in response to the university’s child abuse scandal. The annual event has encouraged over 300,000 people to participate in a grassroots awareness movement and raised over $150,000 for related charities so far.
